About
Welcome to Tales of a Graceless Grad Student!!
My name is Kay and I’m a graduate student. I took my first graduate class during the last semester of my senior year (Fall 2009) and started grad school full time during the Spring 2010 semester. Unfortunately, the structure of the graduate assistantship means I have to work two solid years for the program, so I won’t be graduating until May 2012. Over the next two year I’ll be working as a graduate assistant, attending classes, studying for the comps, and writing my thesis. This blog will chronicle my journey from here to graduation!
I had the idea for this blog while talking to a friend and fellow student about school and the trials we’ll face in the coming years. As an avid personal blogger –I’ve been blogging since 2003– writing is how I express myself and share my day to day life with friends and family. Now please be aware that Kay’s not my real name, it’s a nom de plume. I decided that in order to say what I want to say here, to talk about class and my work as a graduate assistant ethically, I needed to go anon. You’ll never see a link to my blogs here, nor my real name, pictures, or the names of my university and professors. No student names will ever be used (obviously) as that breaks confidentiality.
About my location, I’ll say that I live in Texas, where the bluebonnets grow. About myself, I’m a non-traditional student — I’m in my early 30′s– with an amazing husband and two fur-babies. About my school, I’ll say it’s a small public university, only about 8,000 students in all, but it has found a way to be the source of quite a bit of controversy over the last few years.
Adieu and enjoy!
